The End * * * RATING: B I've been dying to take a look at this series ever since Momotato recommended this title and Jascii's review stated that this was his "favorite of the 2004 summer crop". Now, after waiting ages for the fansubs, there's only one thing that can be said. This title owns. At it's very core, this series is a unabashed parody of the ninja anime genre. Apparently holding nothing sacred, this series makes fun of everything from rudimentary cloaking to Naruto's trademark Kage Bunshin no Jutsu. In addition, while there's plenty of hilarious in-jokes covering everything from Mazinger Z to Street Fighter 3, this series doesn't solely dwell on satire, but instead has a healthy share of pure slapstick, excellent voice acting, and the best ending theme *ever*. In the plethora of heavy-handed titles like Full Metal Alchemist and Melody of Oblivion, Shinobuden stands out as a refreshingly entertaining look at the shonen arena.
