The End. * * * RATING: B Without a doubt, 2x2=Shinobuden was the *funniest* title to air in 2004. In retrospect, it's amazing to see that this series never became dull, despite its furious pace. As fans of shounen will instantly recognize, this conclusion was a complete parody of the chuunin examinations from Naruto. Nevertheless, the first half of the episode was almost a pure exercise in metatheatre, with the ninja cast coming up with hideously inane final-episode concepts, ranging from a spoof of Sailor-Moon to a caricature of MariMite. Although these lampoons would probably fall flat in almost any other title, they worked perfectly in this series -- even the self-deprecating comments on anime art style is a testament to the sheer inherent wit of 2x2=Shinobuden. In the end, one can positively say that this title was nearly perfect -- as a series designed solely for satire, every episode was jam-packed with humor, style, and in-jokes.
