The End * * * RATING: B This title is a complete riot. Most titles from this year are focused on a specific brand of humor -- Full Metal Alchemist specializes in 'shorty' jokes, Kenran centers on slapstick, and Full Metal Fumoffu concentrates on military 'clueless-guy' humor. '2x2 = Shinobuden' eschews this convention and is instead filled to the brim with an odd jambalaya of comedy -- one moment, you'll have lame puns, the next moment, you'll have innuendo, and the next minute, you'll have parody. This necessarily forces the viewer to pay close attention to what's happening (lest you get left behind), but once one gets used to the rapid-fire pace, the result is utter hilarity. Needless to say, Shinobuden has excellent replay value -- it'll take at least three watches to pick up on all the witty inside jokes, and it becomes quite intriguing to try and search for all of the tongue-in-cheek 'Easter Eggs' that the writers snuck in. While this alone would make for an excellent anime title, Shinobuden's polish is revealed in its excellent voice acting and character models. As Momotato points out, the voice acting/audio for this series is outstanding -- Onsakumaru's abnormally perverted voice is quite incongruous to his cute pastel-yellow spherical exterior, and Shinobu and Kaede's strong characters make for some interesting foils. When you combine all this with an excellent OP/ED, there's no doubt that this title is solid gold. One can't help but wonder how ufotable can continue their breakneck pacing without running out of new ideas, but as long as they keep this up, Shinobuden is sure to be a hit (^_^) * * * disagree? read 12 comments! * * * Related Reviews
