The End * * * RATING: B For most viewers, Shinobuden is a purely hit-or-miss proposition - some people can't stand the sheer shallowness and discontinuous episodic nature of the series, while other people adore the title for its sly humor and blithely-executed slapstick. Unfortunately, the reviewer is fixed wholly in the latter camp. While Shinobuden has plenty of critics, there's no doubt that it lives up to the purported claim of being a 'nonsense kunochi fiction'. Every single episode is filled with absolutely ridiculous scenarios, and it's simply hilarious to picture our zany cast of characters in, say, Ninja Scroll or Kurosawa's Seven Samurai. Having said that, it's clear that Shinobuden fills an essential spot in this season's roster -- amidst this season's heart-stirring and mind-rending titles, it's great to finally have a series that has the sole purpose of bringing a smile to the viewer's face. * * * disagree? read 6 comments! * * * Related Reviews
