Bakuretsu Tenshi 1April 19, 2004Title: Hell is coming silently Tachibana Kyoukei is a student in cooking school. One day, he get a job offer.
Tachibana gets hired by a team of four female bounty hunters. Currently, the team is searching for a secret disk.
During their search, the team gets attacked by a giant robot. The robot captures a team member and runs away.
The End. * * * RATING: C Giant robots are cool. There's absolutely no question about it. Although mechas have been in anime for over thirty years, the concept never gets stale -- there's something indescribably neat of having a human control an 80-foot amalgam of machine guns, rocket thrusters, and reversed-phase shields. Even so, TV Asahi has once again shown that it can turn the best ideas into mindless fodder. Although one would think that this studio would be content after wrecking a tale about fighter jet pilots (Area 88) and samurai lord students (Peace Maker Kuragane), TV Asashi is apparently ready to demonstrate its incompetence within the mecha genre. Without a doubt, the conceptual strength of this series is severely undermined by the discordant personalities of the four protagonists. Although the driver / leader Sei is fairly normal, the ninja/cowboy Meg is vivacious to a fault, the prodigy/hacker Amy is mean-spirited as hell (not to mention exceptionally annoying), and the mecha-operator Jo is utterly apathetic. While it is difficult to watch these characters interact for twenty minutes, it is impossible to imagine that these individuals function as a group on a daily basis. Given the instability of this group, it's inconcievable to imagine why the producers decided to add a *cook* to the mix. Unlike the other four bounty hunters, Tachibana has nothing to add to the team's functionality. If anything, Tachibana can only stir up more strife, due to his ultra-passive personality. Since Tachibana isn't featured in the intro OP, it's probable that he'll be killed off soon, but even so, his mere presence seems unnecessary. So there you have it. Although Bakuretsu Tenshi is a mecha series, it has one of the worst character sets ever seen. Despite this, the graphics for this series are quite nice, so if this series emphasizes Numenor's 'hot mecha-on-mecha action' in lieu of character development, it'll probably be quite bearable. * * * disagree? read 8 comments! * * * Related Reviews
