Bakuretsu Tenshi 3April 28, 2004Title: City Where the Beast Howls The bounty hunters Meg and Jo are trying to capture a wanted individual. Their search leads them to a secret pharmaceutical lab. Meg senses something fishy.
While canvassing the lab, Meg is taken hostage.
Jo tries her best to save Meg,
but they both get separated. The End. * * * RATING: B Ok, forget it -- I *really* like this show. Although the "post-cataclysmic survival-of-the-fittest" setting has been rehashed several times before, this series has a snarky sense of individuality that distinguishes itself from its predecessors. In a nutshell, Bakuretsu Tenshi has:
That's it. This series seems to be custom-made for me. Although I was initially turned off by the wussy cook and the 'TV Asahi' label, these faults are definitely compensated by the snappy mariachi background music and the John-Woo-esque fight choreography (down to the dual pistols). I'm still a bit uncertain if I like the cell-shaded graphic style (Jay says that it looks like a PS2 mecha shooter) but I think that the style properly catches the gritty / futuristic nature of the setting. To be honest, the skanky outfits of our protoganists seem out of place in this setting, but, then again, I'm not complaining (^_^) PS: Just as a side note, I've got to say that the fansubbers are doing an outstanding job in their translation for this series -- it's simply hilarious to go through their mock "California-valley-girl" lines for Meg.
