Bakuretsu Tenshi 5May 18, 2004Title: Mansion Where the Evil God Slithers Sei sends Meg to investigate a crime at a posh boarding school for girls.
During her search, Meg hears about an exclusive society that meets in a secret room.
Meg searches the meeting room and finds a monster.
The End. * * * RATING: C Ok, episode one was in an urban junkyard, episode three was in a industrial lab, and . . . episode five is in a super-expensive boarding school! To be frank, it's rather unsettling to go from 'post-cataclysmic hell' to a cloistered world with manicured lawns and Georgian columns. A large portion of BakuTen's appeal comes from it's "survival of the fittest" / Wild Wild West motif, and it seems frightfully abrupt to switch settings to a posh school. Personally, for the first fifteen minutes, it was like: "Did I miss an episode? Is this a flashback?", and, perhaps most importantly, "Where the hell is Jo's mecha?" Eventually, we do get an identifiable enemy -- the governing members appear occultish from the start, and our suspicions are confirmed by the appearance of a cloaked monster. However, just like the setting itself, the 'cloaked monster' seems totally out of place in BakuTen. Perhaps it could pose a threat to Buffy or other assorted vampire hunters, but, honestly, Jo could beat the crap out of it in an instant. Maybe this is just me, but this episode seemed totally pointless. Meg didn't have any cool valley-girl lines, there wasn't any plot development, and the wussy cook was back for a cameo. I swear, if the monster doesn't quadruple in size and if Jo doesn't bring in the mecha to dish out some pain, someone over here is going to be seriously pissed . . . * * * disagree? read 5 comments! * * * Related Reviews
