Bakuretsu Tenshi 7June 16, 2004Title: Black Sky Meg gets captured by a huge crow.
The cook gets injected by an assassination nanobot.
And Jo turns traitor to her group.
The End. * * * RATING: B It's pretty weird to see how quick BakuTen can change from being a mediocre mecha series to an engrossing post-acolyptic character drama. Although the premise of 'giant crow attacks' seemed rather sketchy at first, this episode turned out to be wickedly good -- the graphics were gritty, the action was intense, and the plot was totally unpredictable. I mean, we know that Jo has been a loner within the BakuTen group, but still, it's pretty neat to see her just take the cook hostage and face off against an *entire* Tokyo crime syndicate. In any case, this is clearly a superbly-orchestrated arc -- there's a lot of stuff to accomplish within the next episode (i.e. Kohei needs his nanobot removed, Jo needs to save Meg, etc.) so it's clear that the next episode has a lot to deliver. Even though this series revolves over relatively independent two-show arcs, it's pretty interesting to see how much the main characters have changed -- Jo has *tons* of guts, Sei is really devious, and, quite frankly, the cook isn't as pathetic as he once was. In any case, I can't wait to see how BakuTen winds up. If this episode gives any indication of the quality of later episodes, the rest of this series is going a blast (^_^) * * * disagree? read 8 comments! * * * Related Reviews
