Full Metal Alchemist 31May 12, 2004Title: Sin In the Southern Military Headquarters, Envy captures the mysterious child Wrath and inducts him into his team of homunculi.
After restoring the child's memory, Envy leaves Wrath with Izumi-sensei. After Izumi takes Wrath to a nearby island, Wrath tells her that the homunculi were created by alchemists who tried human transmutation.
Meanwhile, Greed, Sloth, and Envy meet up for the first time at the coast of the same island.
The End. * * * RATING: B For the first time in this series, all the cards are turned face-up. We finally have all seven homunculi assembled. We finally know how the homunculi were created. We finally know the identity of the mysterious kid. And then . . . Full Metal Alchemist gets licensed by Funimation. Quite personally, this could not have happened at a worse time. Now that all the players in the game have finally been introduced, it seems that the action is going to be taken to a whole new level. In the past, the homunculi worked in secret, trying to manipulate Edward from the curtains. Now, this shadowy guise is gone, and we see the homunculi openly use their powers to shatter the Elric brothers. In my opinion, episodes one through thirty-one were just the prelude: the best is yet to come. Unfortunately, it seems that we'll have to stop here, at least until the DVD comes out. To be sure, this is definitely a cliffhanger (i.e. we still don't know what happened between Greed and Envy and why Sloth is so intent on destroying Ishbal) but I guess it can't be helped. Just between us, I think that this series is the *most* intriguing title that I've ever watched. Every single episode was viciously compelling, and the various plot twists shown (i.e. death of Hughes) were nothing short of magnificent. As a farewell note, I'd like to thank Square Enix for producing such a fabulous series, the other anime bloggers for their counterpoint reviews, and, most of all, all the commenters who brought so much insight and speculation to recent episodes of Full Metal Alchemist. You all are awesome! * * * disagree? read 52 comments! * * * Related Reviews
