Fullmetal Panic Fumoffu 10March 22, 2004Title: Things don't always turn out right, Bluebird This episode starts out with a mystery, as we learn from Tokiwa-chan that there are voices coming from the school's gym equipment shed, even though it is locked and darkened. Sagara, our paranoid elite-military-agent protagonist, suspects that the shed is a base point for drug dealers and charges in with stun grenades and a assault rifle, but finds out that the villain is merely Kazama and two other members of the photography club, who were using the dark shed to develop photos. Elsewhere in the school campus, our second protagonist (Chidori) is busy kicking out other clubs that have commandeered classrooms in order to practice everything from karate to biology. In the after-school student council meeting, the school principal recognizes the lack of club-specific classroom space and decides to hold a tournament in order to settle which club will get first dibs in using a room. As per a suggestion from the sociology club, the principle announces that the first choice of a room will go to the club which persuades the largest female crowd to congregate in the school park.
Kazama recruits Sagara into the photography club (since Sagara's stun grenades destroyed a lot of the club's film earlier), and so, Sagara goes into the city in order to pick up passerbys. Unfortunately, although he is unbelievably skilled at using weapons, Sagara is hopelessly lost when dealing with the other gender.
At the close of the competition, Sagara has still failed to acquire anyone, and thus is forced to admit defeat to the rest of the school. However, Sagara is saved from public humiliation by a mysterious individual . . .
who turns out to be Chidori. The End. * * * RATING: A Wow. The synopsis above simply doesn't do justice to the superb nature of this episode, which is, without a doubt, one of the most enjoyable half-hours caught on tape. Virtually everything about this episode was perfect -- art, animation, voice acting -- you name it, it was there. Although the plot was rather contrived, the thematic events were hilarious and, to top it off, the ending was quite heart-warming (considering Chidori's usual relationship with Sagara) Personally, I haven't ever heard of the producers of Fullmetal Panic before (Kyoto Animation), but, judging by the raw creativity and superb voice skills presented, I have no doubt that they will continue to produce great works. Two thumbs way, way up! PS: By the way, the ending and opening songs of this episode are hideously catchy. If you don't beware, it's quite easy to waste a good half-hour by simply replaying the first fifty seconds of this episode. Grrr. (^_^) * * * disagree? add / read 4 comments! |
