Meanwhile, the Count saves the Prosecutor's wife from a carriage
. . . and gives her a ring tipped with poison.
The End. * * * RATING: B Just as pointed out in BluWacky's excellent review, this episode weaves a fiercely compelling tale, complete with rivalry, greed, and illicit love. Although the literary core of this title is more than a century old, there's no doubt that the inherent content is *ridiculously* enthralling. As perhaps the greatest anti-hero of this year, it's clear that the Count will resort to anything to complete his revenge -- not only does he play callously with Albert's life, he's quick to pit Madame de Villefort against both her own husband and her own daughter. Still, it's impossible not to be amazed by the sheer brilliance of the Count -- as seen in the last episode, his financial shrewdness has lent him riches, and now, his suaveness allows him to easily seduce his rival's wife. Granted, the Count has a blackened heart, but it's incredible to witness how he has *honed* himself into a perfect weapon of malice. While the character development of this title continues to be spectacular, there's no doubt that the polish has increased tremendously. As a case in point, the Count's horse-radar is delightfully apropos to old-world Paris, and as a particularly nice touch, it's neat to note that the poisonous agents in Villefort's greenhouse are all quite accurate. Without a doubt, a tremendous amount of care has been taken to create an immersive background to this title, and it is paying off in spades. When all is said and done, it's hard to imagine that a title of this level is being broadcast on television. The depth in this series is utterly unprecedented, and given the current events, there's no doubt that greater things are yet to come. * * * disagree? read 9 comments! * * * Related Reviews
