Gankutsuou 9December 15, 2004Title: I Saw a Dark Dream In Auteuil, the Count's deeds infuriate Crown Prosecutor Villefort
Meanwhile, a glowing curse is branded on the Count's forehead
. . . and Villefort's daughter is poisoned.
The End. * * * RATING: B In a frightfully good follow-up to the current arc, this episode shows the Count's machinations fully in motion, as he goads the three villains against each other. Although it's disturbing to see the crude way that he toys with the emotions of the innocent children, there's no denying the vicious fortitude of the Count. Given the sheer complexity of the intrigue being weaved, it is frankly *impossible* to see just how the Count plans to execute his revenge. Nevertheless, despite his puppeteer-esque position, it's clear that his own actions are damning -- in addition to the curse seal on his forehead, he seems more edgy, more maniacal -- a fact which is clearly noted in the Frankenstein-evoking chiaroscuro motifs. When all is said and done, we've clearly reached the heart of Gankutsuou's plot - given the sheer wealth and power of the Count, it seems impossible for his victims to escape from his grasp, but there'll undoubtedly be some wicked plot twists to come. * * * disagree? read 14 comments! * * * Related Reviews
