RATING: B

Quite frankly, an anime site can *never* be complete without a mention of Bandai's Gundam series. As the most successful mecha title in the world, this franchise has been running for nearly twenty years, creating intricate worlds, political rivalries, and personable heroes. Gundam Seed Destiny clearly builds upon this rich heritage both in style and content, but even without the help of its predecessors, there's absolutely no doubt that this series is accessible, well-polished, and thoroughly enjoyable.

As an initiate to this series, it's daunting to see just how much this series builds on its elders -- a quick look at Ender's review will reveal scads of esoteric technical jargon. However, while there's plenty of minutae to get immersed in, the overall flow of this series is rather fast-paced, with oodles and oodles of frenzied mecha-on-mecha action. Given the high production values of the animation, this isn't really a bad thing, and surprisingly, the single fight scene between Schinn and his counterparts never becomes truly boring, even though it stretches for the whole 28-minute episode.

Aside from the excellent action, there's clearly a lot of evil plot machinations in effect. As pointed out in BluWacky's review, there's a trenchant socio-political commentary just waiting to be unleashed, and even though this is only the second episode, there's *already* foreshadowing of high-level intrigue, treachery, and betrayal. Given that the protagonists are all fairly impulsive teens, there's no doubt that there'll be plenty of angst and melodrama, once the title really gets into its groove.

Anyway, Gundam Seed is doing just fine. Only time will tell whether this series will live up to its legacy, but for the moment, it's golden.
