Jubei-chan Siberia Yagyu 4March 1, 2004Title: A Father That Never Returned Ok, our erstwhile protagonist Nanohana Jiyuu is now sick, thanks to a fever that she received while fighting a mysterious eye-patch-wearing femme who claims to be the incarnation of the great swords-woman Yagyuu Jubei. Nanohana goes to sleep at the side of her friend Felicia, but, unbeknownst to her, Felicia is the same person that fought her the day before.
The following day, we start by seeing Odagou Ayunosuke, who is a tiny boy who apparently has the mission of giving Nanohana a certain eye-patch that transforms her into a super-powerful ninja. Odagou is busy recollecting the events of the day before, when he tried to give the eye-patch to Nanohana, but his musings are soon interrupted by the transformed version of Felicia, who is now intent on hunting him down and getting his eye-patch.
Although Odagou is fast, he is no match for Felicia, and is soon captured. When Odagou refuses to give the eye-patch to Felicia, Felicia decides to kill him, but, at the last moment, he is saved by Nanohana's ninja-mother. After being saved, Odagou meets up with Nanohana, where he tells her his story and that he and his father have been looking for Nanohana for nearly three hundred years. Unfortunately, Nanohana tells him to stay away . . .
which leaves him sitting in the dust, holding the eyepatch that he was supposed to give to her. * * * RATING: D Ok, honesty, I think the animation for this series is great -- the faces of Odagou and Felicia are quite expressive, plus the forest battle scenes are stylistically on the level of Naruto (complete with people leaping from branch to branch at super-high speeds). However, I can't seem to get past the fact that this series is unbelievably disorganized. Why doesn't Nanohana take the eyepatch and throw it away? Why doesn't Felicia stay in her powerful transformed mode? Why is the father so uncomfortable about discussing his work? What is the purpose of the sunglass-wearing samurai?
