RATING: C

Mecha combat is cool. Submarine combat is not.

To be honest, I didn't like this episode -- Anna and Ms. Enora were rather annoying, and I couldn't seem to rationalize any of the main plot events. For example, why is a 200-ton submarine able to fly? If secrecy is so important, why is the Aurora's captain so intent on chasing a trivial paint-job vandal?

I think that the main strength of this series lies in the character interaction between Vess (aristocratic girl policewoman) and her old childhood friend Graham (rogue boy pirate). When the series tries to focus on pure action instead, it fails miserably, due to the archaic graphic style and muted underwater sound effects.

In any case, this series needs to get back on track. Episode 4 was excellent (see Reika's review), but this one was totally mediocre. Grr.
