but they are interrupted by the mercenary Kubernes, who threatens to destroy the cruise ship.
Fortunately, Gram comes to the rescue . . .
and defeats Kubernes. The End. * * * RATING: B Just as BluWacky, Reika, and Ten point out, this episode is simply *hilarious*. In the first seven episodes, we were introduced to all of the main characters in their respective domains (i.e. Anna Grace in the capitol, Niels Poe in his lair, the Captain in her submarine), but for the first time, we're actually seeing the protagonists interacting in the same arena. All of the main characters (with the exception of Gram) have ultra Type A personalities, so it's naturally funny to see them go toe-to-toe with their rivals. Of course, at the very center of this tangled web is Gram River, who is now the primary target of Enora, Vess, and Kubernes. Unusually, it seems that Gram is prized not for his extraordinary mecha skills, but rather for the stone pendant that he wears. It's quite startling to see that the pendant is even recognized by the powerful Niels Poe, but perhaps its significance is to be expected, judging from Gram's first encounter with his own mecha. Anyway, this series is clearly getting better after every episode -- plot and character traits are developing quite nicely, and, to top it off, it seems like the next episode will feature hot springs!
