Moekan 1April 6, 2004Title: Rinia Ok, the erstwhile protagonist for this series is Kanzaki Takahiro, the programming chief of a huge maid-robot factory. By nature, Takahiro is cold and aloof, and when he receives an order to make an old android into a 'combat maid', he refuses.
However, this order comes from the top figures of the robot factory, and Takahiro is forced to accept the robot, albeit for a short amount of time. And so, we are subsequently introduced to our heroine -- an amnesia-plagued android called Rinia.
As an 'old-model' android, Rinia isn't as quick or skilled as her newer robotic counterparts, but she makes great tea and delicious sandwiches. In addition, Rinia seems to personally care for Takahiro. These traits make Takahiro keep Rinia in spite of her flaws . . .
and he decides to train Rinia. The End. * * * RATING: D Ick. This is probably just me, but I can't stand maid-anime shows. I'm really sorry. Ever since I was emotionally traumatized by Hand Maid May, I've learned to avoid this genre at all costs. However, Moekan also seems to fall into combat-android-girl genre, which includes the superb "Chobits". Although I'll have to see more than the first episode to be sure, I'm pretty sure that this title falls more to the side of Hand Maid May, instead of it's superior anime counterparts. Given the nature of our chief protagonist (cold, aloof, bishonen), it's pretty obvious that he's going to be struck by the innocence and cheerfulness of his robotic student, and will subsequently fall in love. Somewhere along the line, the robot will echo Pinocchio ("I want to be human") and run away with her master to a secluded place that doesn't require the services of a combat maid. Quite frankly, this whole mecha-girl genre has been pretty thoroughly hashed out by prior titles (*cough* Saikano), and I seriously doubt that we're going to see something new in this particular series. Although I think that it's cool that Rinia has four hands, this series isn't compelling enough to remain on my watch-list. * * * disagree? read 4 comments! |
