RATING: C

Just as pointed out in Kabitzin's review and Matthew's commentary, this title is one of the most highly-anticipated titles of the Fall 2004 season, and quite fortunately, it's off to a solid start. The art, animation, and voice acting are all well done, and although there's nothing spectacular, it promises to be a placidly enjoyable title.

As Momomato notes, this show focuses on the various supernatural powers of the three main characters, which range from being able to create a shield of fire . . . to absurdly strong swordsmanship. All this is executed in a rather formulaic manner, and regulars to shonen anime will quickly be quick to recognize stock elements such as seeing a main character slice a ship in half, and, of course, seeing the heroine gain her magic skills *seconds* before certain death. While all this is fairly standard fare, this series also borrows elements from shoujo -- the main storyline is set in prestigious private academy, and given the typical high-school cast, there's sure to be plenty of romance, angst, and associated tripe.

In any case, there's really nothing to complain about. It's still way too early to make a final judgment on this title, but it really doesn't seem compelling, despite its pathetic attempts at cheesy humor. Nevertheless, it's definitely possible that this title may blossom in the future.
