Naruto 105October 22, 2004Title: Just before the goal! Thundering into Fierce Fighting! Just before Idate crosses the final checkpoint of the marathon, he is stopped by the Rain jounin Aoi.
Both Naruto and Sasuke try to save Idate, but their attempts are futile
and Sakura and Sasuke are thrown off a cliff.
The End. * * * RATING: C Although this arc isn't egregiously bad, it is definitely . . . disappointing. Instead of following up to the excellent chapter from last week, we are presented with a rather mundane episode filled with minimal action, irrelevant flashbacks, and a pointless rehash of the confrontation between Aoi and Idate. To be fair, it's fairly interesting to see just how Naruto's rasengan and Sasuke's chidori face up against the stolen sword of the 2nd Hokage. However, it's inconceivable to imagine that both Naruto and Sasuke would try to overwhelm a jounin-level ninja by using brute force in lieu of using teamwork or formulating a proper strategy. While this proves to yield substandard action scenes, the plot-related flashbacks aren't exciting either. Quite frankly, Idate isn't really a compelling character, and more significantly, it's disgusting to finally recognize him as a coward, a traitor to Konoha and the betrayer of his own brother. Putting all of this aside, it'll be interesting to see just how Naruto and Idate fare against Aoi. Although the outcome is inevitable, it's possible that the mechanics will be intriguing. * * * disagree? read 63 comments! * * * Related Reviews
