Naruto 116-117January 7, 2005Title: The Raging Battle Between the Cool Guys! After activating his Level 2 seal, Kidoumaru uses long-range attacks
. . . and a horde of spider summons
. . . to crush Neji into unconsciousness.
The End. * * * RATING: B As the first episode of 2005, this premier special gets the year to an excellent start by presenting an action-packed battle between two genius-level ninjas. Although the overall presentation seems merely above-average, this episode does a great job of setting the tone for future battles. From one perspective, it seems that Kidoumaru is almost completely invincible -- in addition to being a master at summoning and long-range combat, Kidoumaru has excellent analytic skills and is capable of blocking melee attacks at a moment's notice. Given the sheer advantage that Kidoumaru bears, it seems quite . . . anticlimactic to see him trumped at the last moment by Neji's gambit, especially after Kidoumaru's prolonged monologues. Nevertheless, there's no denying that the graphical quality of this series has increased immensely -- the close-range fight choreography is extremely fluid, and in deference to arachnophobics, it is downright *skin-crawling* to see Neji drowning in a shower of giant spiders. By all standards, a tremendous amount of care has been put into bring this series to life, and given its superlative track record, one can only hope for more. * * * disagree? read 212 comments! * * * Related Reviews
