Naruto 121February 11, 2005Title: Everyone's Respective Fight! Although Kiba manages to save Akamaru, he is mortally wounded.
Meanwhile, Naruto is stymied by Kimimaru . . .
while Shikamaru is cornered by Tayuya's giant minions.
The End. * * * RATING: B In an incredibly fast-paced episode, this chapter shows our three protagonists suffering massive trauma from their overbearing opponents. Although the simultaneous focus on all three battles tends to fragment the storyline, the sheer *magnitude* of the action makes for a remarkably enthralling experience. In one sense, it's impossible to watch this arc without feeling despair at the devastating odds faced by our heroes -- whether one looks at Kiba, Naruto, or Shikamaru, it's difficult to imagine that either victory or even mere survival is a viable option. Given the long-standing emotional involvement at stake, it seems horrendous that defeat looms inevitable, despite being so close to redemption. In any case, this arc is racing towards its ultimate climax, but when faced with such hideous foes, it's unclear whether the conclusion will bring relief or anguish. The pressure seems to be ratcheting up with every passing second, but something somewhere will have to *snap*. * * * disagree? read 239 comments! * * * Related Reviews
