Naruto 79

Title: Exceeding the Limit! Light and Shadow!
Fansubbed by: BakaSan

Deep in the Konoha forest, Gaara has now performed a forced-sleep-jutsu on himself to release the huge demon Shukaku, which was previously sealed inside him. Even with the help of the giant toad Gaya Oyabin, Naruto is no match for the Shukaku, so he attacks Gaara directly to de-activate the demon.

Meanwhile, back in the Konoha village, the Konoha residents quickly drive back the invading Sound & Sand country forces. Although most of the fighting is done by the elite jounins, the parents of the Konoha student-ninjas help as well.

While the invaders are being repelled, the Konoha Hokage (Saidame) and Orochimaru are still locked in mortal combat. Although he has already summoned Death to kill Orochimaru, the Hokage does not have the power to fully pull out Orochimaru's soul. As such, he uses Death to disable Orochimaru's arms. After completing this, the Hokage dies.

RATING: B

This was a particularly good episode, in terms of closure -- Gaara seems to be finally defeated, the Hokage is finally done with Orochimaru, and the Konoha invaders have finally been defeated.

Although the 'Konoha Crush' arc of Naruto seems to be drawing to a close (episodes 68-79), it's clear that there are still questions that remain unanswered. For instance, in the middle of this episode, why does the purple-haired ANBU member say that she will avenge "Gekkou Hayate"? Isn't Hayate the surname of Kakashi-sensei?

Aside from Kakashi, I'm sure that Orochimaru will resurface as a new villain -- after all, if he once conquered death, he's not going to be severely worried about the loss of two arms. At the very worst, one of Orochimaru's minions can push Orochimaru's soul into a dead person's body (see Orochimaru's resurrection of the First and Second Hokage)

Nevertheless, despite these pressing issues, I was rather impressed by the fluidity of this arc. Personally, I wanted to see what Jinrai (aka Perverted Hermit) was doing in Konoha with his huge summoned toad (or if he still had it, after Naruto summoned it), but I suppose one can't have everything (^_^)
