Naruto 80April 23, 2004Title: The Third, Forever . . . . . !! Back in the Konoha forest, the battle between Naruto and Gaara is finally over. Both of them are thoroughly exhausted, so they call a truce and leave.
After returning back to the village, Naruto participates in a funeral service honoring the deaths of the Hokage and six other ninjas.
While the funeral service is taking place, two shadowy ninjas watch the village from a distance.
Unusually, one of these ninjas comes from Konoha and possesses the ultra-powerful sharingan 'mirror-eye'. The End. * * * RATING: B Wow. Time and time again, I'm astounded at how intense this series really is. Initially, I expected that this would be a filler episode (judging from last week's previews), but somehow the producers made the Hokage's death so *poignant* that it seemed quite appropriate to spend an entire episode honoring his sacrifice. Although this episode didn't have that much action, it did an excellent job in character development. In particular, I was particularly impressed by the ending conversation between Gaara and Naruto -- it wasn't sentimental or anything, but firmly established that both characters had endured excruciating hatred and scorn while growing up. Although it's improbable that Gaara will be able to instantly forget his psychological pain, he can finally start walking towards the light, thanks to Naruto's help. Anyway, aside from all that, this episode definitely raises some interesting questions -- taking a leaf from Mafuyu, who *is* the purple-haired girl? Why does she call Kakashi "sempai"? With regard to Kakashi, how does he know that the evil ANBU member is Kabuto? Why does Kabuto say that Kakashi can't use the sharingan as well as the Uchiha clan? Speaking of sharingans, who are the mysterious ninjas at the end of the episode? Whew. Honestly, you would expect that Konoha would have some time to relax after the Hokage's death, but no, we already have new threats on the horizon. Grr. Can't wait for next Thursday (^_^) * * * disagree? read 17 comments! * * * Related Reviews
