RATING: B

Ever since Sarutobi was killed, the people of the Leaf have been searching for a leader. After 20-odd episodes, Konoha finally has a Hokage.

This one-hour special represents the culmination of the 'Quest for the Fifth Hokage' arc, and for the most part, it lives up to all expectations. Tsunade deserted Konoha quite a long time ago, and it's definitely a big step for Tsunade to put away the tormenting memories of Dan and Nawaki and return to her hometown.

Needless to say, it's clear that Tsunade wouldn't have accepted the 'Kage' title without Naruto's impetus -- his sacrifice in episode 94 serves as a catalyst for her to put away her fear of blood and unleash a set of utterly wicked jutsus.

The second half focuses on the revitalized Tsunade, and here, we clearly see her as a force to be reckoned with. Unlike her earlier battle with Kabuto, Tsunade proves to be a nearly unstoppable melee fighter, and her ability to regenerate makes her invulnerable to Orochimaru's attacks. It's no surprise that even with his snake summon Mando, Orochimaru is soon defeated.

In retrospect, the last few episodes have been one hell of a ride, and it's good to see that Konoha finally has a guardian. It's clear that Orochimaru will strike back in another form, but for the moment, it's nice to know that at long last, all is well.
