One Piece 84March 4, 2004Title: The Blue-Nosed Reindeer! Chopper's Secret! Ok, so Nami (and Sanji and Luffy) are all finally in the castle of Dr. Kureha, the only doctor of Drum Island. It turns out that Nami was bitten by the poisonous "Kestia" bug, which reputably kills its victims within five days. Fortunately, Dr. Kureha was able to find the antidote, and used it to save Nami. Unusually enough, Dr. Kureha is always assisted by a small blue-nosed reindeer called Chopper, who, aside from being able to speak, seems to be interested in becoming a pirate.
After talking to Dr. Kureha, Nami learns that the reindeer is indeed odd, since he ate one of the legendary "Devil Fruits" as a child, which turned into a half-human / half-reindeer beast.
Unfortunately, this transformation caused Chopper to be ostracized from his reindeer herd, and when he tried to enter human society instead, he was treated as a monster and hunted down. When the newly-recovered Luffy and Sanji see Chopper in his human-reindeer form, they are also surprised, but, after getting over their first shock, they decide to ask Chopper to join their team as a resident doctor.
The End. * * * RATING: C Ok, without a doubt, the voice acting in One Piece is the best I've ever seen in *any* series. Luffy has such an obscenely funny voice! Although this episode didn't have much in plot development, it was rather amusing to see our pirate gang develop their views on Chopper -- first as a side of meat, then as a weird hybrid, and finally as a viable team member. Although this episode doesn't really have much re-watchability appeal, it provides a nice breather before the upcoming episode, where we'll presumably see Luffy fight his old nemesis, King Wapol. * * * disagree? read 1 comment! * * * Related Reviews
