RATING: B

Although Otogizoushi hasn't had much publicity due to an early state-side license, it's been highly recommended in Ten's reviews, Ender's commentary and Bluwacky's summary. While this title really doesn't fit into this season's palate of shonen fodder, there's no doubt that Otogizoushi could definitely be a sleeper hit.

Quite personally, there's a lot to like about Otogizoushi -- the watercolor-drawn backgrounds are gorgeous, the bamboo flute arrangements are compelling, and the snatches of humor are hilarious. However, this series does have its rough spots -- the voice acting can be grating at times (*cough* omg, new child Kintarou), and, to be frank, the ptosis-plagued cast is rather unsightly.

Granted, it's quite shallow to dismiss a series simply because of an alternate Paranoia-Bat-esque visual style, and as a sort of explanation, the reviewer points to an undue acclimation with doe-eyed heroes like Nanoka. However, most of the readers of this site are much more mature, so . . . for those looking for a historical adventure title with strong character development and an epic storyline, Otogizoushi comes strongly recommended (^_^)
