RATING: B

Just as Kabitzin, Sugar, Reika, Matthew, Ten, Jeff, BluWacky, and Miwa concur, this series is literally dripping with style. You want remix-esque visual clips? It's there. You want gravity-defying fight scenes? It's there. You want phat graffiti letters? It's there. The point is, if you're looking for eye candy, look no further.

At first glance, this series seems unusually similar to last season's Gungrave. Like its counterpart, Champloo also shares a love for film-strip effects, slow-motion action, and wide-screen video. However, the one thing that makes Champloo stand out is . . . its superb protagonists. At present, we've got a technically precise samurai (Jin), a freak barbarian (Mugen), and a spirited tea-shop maiden (Fuu) in between. Hmm. Although it'll probably be interesting to see how Fuu is going to find her missing samurai, it'll probably be even more amusing to see how Jin is going to stand living with Mugen.

In any case, this episode delivers an excellent start for this series. The production values are outstanding, and the ED theme is awesome. Let's get some more of this!
