Samurai Champloo 18January 31, 2005Title: War of the Words Years ago, a dojo master entrusted his children to Jin.
Now, his children have become reckless graffiti artists.
So Mugen puts them in their place.
The End. * * * RATING: B Just as pointed out in Momotato's excellent commentary, after a break of a quarter-year, Samurai Champloo has landed right back on its feet. Due to the significant intermission before the current episode, it's quite jarring to be inundated by so much overt *style* in one sitting. Given the graffiti motif and the ghetto twin protagonists, this episode verges on the edge of trying too hard to re-establish its look. However, this never goes to the point of being pathetic, and there are some genuinely funny moments in the show, such as the introduction of a psychotic schoolteacher and the subsequent focus on Champloo's absurd group dynamic. When all is said and done, this episode does a superb job of bringing back the original feel of the first season. However, despite significant advances in character development, there's still a glaring lack of any plot development whatsoever, which tends to trivialize the entire storyline. * * * disagree? read 11 comments! * * * Related Reviews
