RATING: B

Just as pointed out by the excellent commentary by Momotato and Athena, this episode provides a remarkably *smooth* blend of character development, plot machinations, and group dynamics.

In one way, it seems that this episode doesn't ooze style, as characteristic of its predecessors -- rap has been replaced by the shamisen, the characters act more natural, and the pace of the story is slower than before. However, this shift in focus does wonders to the overall *cohesion* of the storyline, and in the end, one is left with a title that is both tasteful and uniquely easy to watch.

Having said this, there no doubt that there's a ton of hard substance in this episode -- Jin's battle with Sara brings up several questions, all pertinent to the underlying plot, and it's fiendishly interesting to speculate whether this is indeed a prelude to the demise of our heroes. One can hardly believe that Samurai Champloo can be this *good*, but for the moment, it's golden.
