The End. * * * RATING: A Just as pointed out in Momotato's superb review, this episode represents the archetype of this genre. In terms of style, content, and polish, this story arc delivers one of the *best* samurai tales ever concocted. In retrospect, it's amazing to see just how skillfully this arc is orchestrated -- even though the critical plot events stretch between two episodes, one only starts to get an grip on the overarching schema at the very end, and as the seconds tick down, it's incredible to see the truth stripped bare with all its myriad clues uncovered. Given the complexity of the storyline, it's amazing to see that action isn't left by the wayside, and indeed, the midnight fight scenes, with its dramatic visual angles and slow-motion choreography, stands out as some of the finest swordsplay to date. With all this said, there's no doubt that Champloo retains its peculiar brand of corny humor, perhaps as a nod that, yes, this is the same series that was so mediocre at its inception. To be sure, it's improbable that Champloo will be able to replicate this feat once again, but for the moment, one can be satisfied at seeing a presentation that remains virtually flawless. * * * disagree? read 26 comments! * * * Related Reviews
