RATING: D

Although Matthew and Jeff had interesting thoughts about this series, it seems that Tsumoi's hilarious comments hits closest to the mark. When all is said and done, this title is just another mediocre teen mecha rehash.

Perhaps this is somewhat exaggerated, but it seems like there's a fixed recipe for this particular genre -- add one quart of teen genius, two cups of sordid angst, and one teaspoon of nerve-conduction skinsuits and, presto, there's your cookie-cutter mecha title. For heaven's sake, could this get any more unoriginal?

Although this title could have been interesting if it came before Neon Genesis Evangelion (or Gundam Seed or Rahxephon or Run=Dim), there's simply nothing to recommend this at present. While some mecha titles (i.e. BakuTen) have managed to distinguish themselves based on iconoclastic characters and unconventional settings, this title doesn't even *try* to put a new spin on mecha anime.

Presented with such an appalling lack of creativity, this series is just begging to be dropped. It's possible that future episodes will be much better, but right now, it's simply old hat.
