Evo2K4 SF3 Championship

August 6, 2004

Massive kudos goes to Shoryuken.com for posting a 12 MB video of the amazing ending to the Street Fighter III championship game between Daigo Umehara (Ken) and Justin Wong (Chun-Li), where the nearly-dead Ken individually parries all fourteen of Chun-Li's aerial roundhouse kicks and goes on to execute a finishing spinning uppercut:

Damn.

This video simply cannot be described. Parrying was only recently introduced in the Street Fighter series, but it requires extremely good timing and is thus only feasible against slow characters -- for those who know the genre, it is frankly *impossible* to execute parries against a fast character like Chun-Li, especially in the midst of her super combos. Simply un.be.lievable.

The clip shows the crowd reaction in addition to in-game footage, and right when the Ken parries the 4th spin kick, you can see the entire auditorium rising as one and screaming at the top of their lungs. In a picture, there's only one thing to be said.

Hindsight is always 20/20
