Zoological ExcursionApril 2, 2006Hehe, midterms for my stat theory class is over, so decided to go to the Brookfield Zoo with A. & J.!
Anyway, found it to be most enjoyable -- the set-pieces for the rain forest and desert were very realistic, and it was quite entertaining to go ahead and read the ancillary biological tidbits that accompanied each exhibit (i.e. "only mammals have bellybuttons" [o rly?]) In any case, also got a chance to finish reading Greg Bear's Eon, which is classic 1980's sci-fi, complete with governmental cover-ups, nuclear winter, and time travel. I wouldn't recommend it by any means, but it did introduce some rather neat ethical constructs for researchers (i.e. is it plagiarism if you copy ideas from a paper you published 30 years in the future?). Fiendish! PS: Kudoes to B. for the following video clip -- go cultural values (T_T) PPS: Thanks to M. for pointing this out, but on Wednesday of this week, at two minutes and three seconds after 1:00 in the morning, the time and date shall be 01:02:03 04/05/06. Very cool, imo :) |
