in the future, there is no blue screen of death

It's pretty late to weigh in on James Cameron's sci-fi film Avatar, given that the mega-hit was released nearly two months ago. However, after seeing the movie twice (first in 2D, then in 3D), I've got to say that it is flat-out one of the most impressive movies I've seen. Although the plot is rather derivative, the art was superb, the acting was solid, and the fight choreography was excellent. The one thing that stood out for me was the unique experience of watching the movie in 3D -- from the start, it was clear that the movie was designed from the start for 3D viewers, and it was amazing to physically experience the sensation of vertigo during the chase / flying scenes. Lastly, in contrast to my initial expectations, the 3D glasses didn't induce any eyestrain, and actually looked pretty classy (as seen on A. below):

Moving away from the mechanics of the movie, I was pretty intrigued by its simulation of computer graphical user interfaces. Many sources (including Gizmodo and TabletNews) have written about Avatar's use of slate computers, and still others have noted how previously far-fetched technology is finally coming to real life in the form of Apple's iPad. I'm not fully convinced, and am personally holding out a personal GUI similar to one used by Downey Jr. in Iron Man;

Cool stuff. Anyway, time in real life has been passing quickly -- only 33 days left to National Match Day! Can't wait to get to residency and become a rock star :)
