ACES Open House

March 11, 2006

when a giraffee ruminates, you can see a bolus ascend 3+ ft.

Quick notes -- my awesome dormmate R. is doing his PhD in Animal Sciences, and on Friday, we went to Rantoul to talk to a high school 4-H club about the various Agriculture / Animal Sciences stuff at UIUC, and take interested students to the ACES Open House on campus. In any case, it was lots of fun (unlike med school open houses, which are wicked boring), and there were all sorts of neat exhibits:

Anyway, had a lovely time talking with R. & kids on the drive back, and it's really interesting to hear how different it is to grow up in a rural area -- I mean, it's one thing to read stuff by Laura Ingalls Wilder, but it's quite another matter to hear stories that concurrently deal with sibling rivalry and horse diuretics.
