MD/PhD Conference 2005

May 14, 2005

University of California at San Francisco is l33t.

Ok, this is going to be brief, but I just got back from an MD/PhD conference in San Francisco -- it was loads of fun, with plenty of muching, sightseeing, and clubbing, but the *real* highlight was the University of California at San Francisco, which is just as awesome as it's been portrayed. Of course, it's nigh impossible to get a residency there, but their radiology program is extremely drool-worthy.

Anyway, bottom line from conference is that MD/PhDs get first choice for residencies at research institution. From the career panel, it turns out that most MD/PhDs actually skank out and go full clinical after completing residency, instead of doing any research at all. However, they're also more likely to subcontract out and get phat l3wt from biotech startups.

Anyway, definately heartening, given that joint degrees take an *obscene* amount of time to complete. Yay.
