Emerson String QuartetOctober 21, 2005Whoa, just went with D., B., and others to a *phenomenal* concert by the Emerson String Quartet -- it's definitely the best concert that I've gone to during this semester, if not the whole year. Just uber insane wicked good. B. warned me in advance that Mendelssohn's Octet was featured, but it's impossible to describe just how technically amazing these musicians were -- there was this one place where the piece is moving fairly fast, and then everyone except the first violinist drops out, and then the first violinist speeds up from 16th notes to 32nd notes and, for about a minute until everyone cuts back in, he just *nails* every single note with crystal-clear intonation. I don't think I've ever seen someone perform with such inhuman precision. In any case, Emerson comes highly recommended from me -- it's won three Grammy awards for 'Best Classical Album', and Time Magazine calls the group 'America's greatest quartet', so I still can't get over the fact that we managed to snag tickets for 20$. Furthermore, I got my program autographed, so I am beside myself (^_^):
Anyway, good stuff -- it was heaps of fun to hang out and make silly thinker poses at the concert center, but now I guess . . . it's time to study (*curse you grainger engineering library for being open until 3AM on a friday night* T_T) |
